Just a little follow on from my previous musing 'Why do Yoga?' I though I would include a cute drawing I was given during my studies in India illustrating perfectly the powers we attain through yoga. I was taught that though all these powers exist naturally within the soul they are often in a weak state due to adverse situations we encounter throughout our lives. Through our yoga practice we can increase these natural powers and counteract negative energies that exist all around us , whether that is from the environment (pollution) toxic relationships and toxic foods. It's worth also mentioning that if we keep using these powers, they keep increasing within our soul. So through our yoga and meditation we can keep them in a powerful state.
Power to Withdraw
The Power to Withdraw is the power that enables you to step back and disengage yourself from the noise of life . Similar to a tortoise withdrawing to keep itself safe or when it wants to rest. Yoga helps us to know when to withdraw from adverse situations and remain protected within our 'Shell of Soul Consciousness'
Power to Pack Up
The Power to Pack Up is the power that helps us to stop wasteful thinking. A spiritual pack up requires us to keep our mental luggage light making our journey through life easy and pleasant. Carrying wasteful thoughts is like making our luggage unnecessarily heavy. Throw all the waste away to keep yourself light.
Power to Tolerate
For yogis the word 'tolerate' is used differently. When non yogis say that they are tolerating something, they may be reacting internally though they are not reacting outwardly. This creates tension on a subconscious level. Yoga can teach us to neither react internally or externally because we are detached observers. when the Power to Tolerate is in an emerged state, you have the ability to remain undisturbed .
The Power to Adjust
Yoga helps us to be more like water. To behave like the rivers that meander to accommodate obstructions; these rivers adjust their path and change shape, while they keep flowing.
We can use this power to accommodate situations, people and views, decisions and ways of others.
Power to Discriminate
When a yogi uses this power it's like a jeweller who picks out the true gems rather than the fakes.
Yoga enables us to stay in touch with our divine intellect and through this connection helps us to:
i. Distinguish the truth from what seems to be the truth
ii. Distinguish between things of temporary value and those of eternal value
iii. Know if someone is pretending or not.
iv. Choose right from wrong in a second.
Power to Judge
When you use this power you will be able to make good decisions after having properly assessed the choices, actions etc
Power to Face
Yoga helps us to face difficult situations that present themselves. We are able to face each situation with confidence knowing the universe has our backs.
Power to Co-operate
When we use this power we are able to work with others. The picture illustrates symbolically people jointly lifting a mountain. This portrays what a team can achieve if they co-operate to achieve an aim.
If you have got this far then thank you for reading my blog and I hope it has given you some food for thought on this rainy morning .
Looking forward to seeing you all on Thursday evening as we all work towards increasing our 'Powers'
