As I prepare for my new beginners class it got me thinking...Why do yoga?
After 30 years of daily practice ( with a few pauses to allow for recovery from illness and injury, pregnancy and post partum) I rarely ask myself this question. Yoga is so intrinsically linked into my daily life I don't actually stop to consider why I do what I do ? Here is what came to mind:
I will have an altogether different relationship with my body. I am the one in charge. This alone is empowering as everything we need already exists inside all of us. Yoga helps us to find this power.
I will grow old with a straighter spine and a degree of health and comfort in the body that is usually only enjoyed by the young.
I will develop better focus- this focus is reflected in to all aspects of my life, not just when I'm on my mat making shapes.
I will be better able to deal with the shocks that impact my body without allowing trauma to create even more pain.
I will become more in charge of my whole self- mind and body- through sheer awareness, feeling stronger and more alive.
This list is not exhaustive and I am sure to think of more reasons as I go through my day. I would love to know your thoughts on this subject so please drop me a comment.
